In-Depth Logging Process
The 9 Steps of our Logging Process.
Once we decide to cut your timber, we will perform these 9 steps to complete the job. If you have any questions regarding our process, contact us at any
time—we will be happy to help you!
-
1. Initial Visit
After you contact us, we will set up a time to look at your property. We will discuss your goals and requirements and offer our recommendations. If we cannot help you, we will refer you to someone who can help.
-
2. Mark Timber
After we agree to take the job, we will walk through the property to mark each tree that will be cut. We mark the trees with special paint so that the logger can clearly see which ones to cut.
-
3. Sign Contract
After the contract is signed, we will draw up an E&S plan and any required permits before the job is started.
-
4. Establish the Landing
Next, we bring in heavy equipment to create a landing. The landing is where the logs are cut to correct lengths and loaded onto the trailers.
-
5. Harvest Timber
The feller buncher then cuts down the marked trees and lays them onto piles that the skidder can easily pick up. Trees that are too big for the feller buncher are cut down with a chainsaw.
-
6. Skidding & Bucking
The skidder then drags the trees on skid trails from the cutting site to the landing. Once the trees are on the landing, they are delimbed and cut to specific lengths.
-
7. Loading
After the trees are delimbed and cut, they are loaded onto log trailers.
-
8. Transporting
The trailers are then transported to a sawmill or paper mill.
-
9. Reseed and Prevent Erosion
After the logging process is complete, we will finish the job by completing any conservation work discussed during the initial visit.
